The Arts at Fairholme
Dance is offered as an elective subject from Years 9 to 12, and all students in Years 7 and 8 complete a semester of Dance. When studied in Years 11 and 12, Dance is an Authority subject which is based on the approved QCAA syllabus.
Across the different year levels Dance exposes students to a variety of dance genres, such as Ballet, Hip Hop, Funk, Contemporary, Jazz, Tap and many more. Students also develop an awareness of dance in different contexts and for various functions, including for artistic, ritual and social purposes.
The study of Dance is enriched by experiences in Choreography, Performance and Appreciation. Some of the skills refined are self-confidence as a performer, use of improvisation as a tool for working in Dance, and the extension and consolidation of physical and technical capabilities.
Written skills used in the deconstruction of dance works require skills in, research and analysis as well as learning to communicate coherently and insightfully about Dance.
This Unit is designed to give an introduction into what Dance at Â鶹ÊÓƵCollege is like, with students engaging in all three assessment criterion.
Students will make and respond to dance independently and explore dance as an art form through choreography, performance and appreciation. They will develop an understanding of space, dynamics and relationships through performing in groups, spatial relationships and interaction to communicate meaning through choreographic intention.
In addition, students will extend their technical and expressive skills and increase their confidence, accuracy and clarity of movement and ability to explore meaning and interpretation through Dance.
This Unit is designed to continue on from Year 7 Dance and continues to build skills in the three assessment criterion.
Students will make and respond to dance independently and explore dance as an art form through choreography, performance and appreciation. They will continue to develop their understanding of space, dynamics, structural devices, and relationships through performing in groups.
In addition, students will extend their technical and expressive skills and increase their confidence, accuracy and clarity of movement and ability to explore meaning and interpretation through Dance.
They will complete three different units across the four terms:
Unit 1: Jazz
Unit 2: Contemporary
Unit 3: Film and Dance
Unit 4: Hip Hop.
Students will make and respond to dance independently and explore dance as an art form through choreography, performance and appreciation.
Throughout the units of study, students will continue to build on their awareness of the body and how it is used in various cultural dance style-specific movements, including social, historical and cultural.

Students will study dance in various genres and styles, embracing a variety of cultural, societal and historical viewpoints integrating new technologies in all facets of the subject.
Open to all students Years 7 to 12.
Audition-based and open to students in Years 7 to 12 (conducted in alternate years to the biennial musical). Competes in various Eisteddfodau.
Participation in both groups involve group rehearsals on a weekly basis and performances at various school events, including but not limited to:
All students interested in dance are encouraged to audition for the biennial musical co-production musical.
Based on the number of large scale Arts events during the year, these groups will run based on time allocation and availability of venue.
