See below a list of Junior School frequently asked questions (FAQs) to help you navigate your first days at Â鶹ÊÓƵCollege.

  • What are the office hours?

    The Junior School Office is open from 8am to 4pm, term time.

  • Where should my daughter go on the first day?

    On the first day of Term 1, girls should go to their classroom.


    If uncertain, please go to the Junior School office and our administration staff will escort you to your classroom.


    New starters during the school year should go to the Junior School office, where you will be met by a buddy and escorted to class. 


    Kindy students will go directly to their Kindy classroom, which they will be familiar with from their enrolment tour and Kindy entry interview. 


  • What are the school hours?

    Junior School 

    Monday to Friday 8.25am to 3.10pm


    Morning Tea 10.30am to 10.50am

    Lunch 12.30pm to 1.15pm


    Kindy 

    Monday to Friday 8.30am to 3pm


    Girls may arrive at 8am and play in the P&F Courtyard before school. Please make arrangements for Before School Care if your daughter needs to arrive before 8am.


    Collection at the end of the school day is from the Rotunda. Please make arrangements for After School Care if your daughter is unable to be collected by 3.30pm. 


  • What are the key dates?

    Events noted on the Term Dates overview are events which involve all students.


    Our term dates are published for the College Community at least 6 months prior to the beginning of the new school year and we thank all families for noting these dates and booking any family holidays or trips during the term breaks so that all students can complete the full learning expectations each year.



  • Where is the uniform shop?

    Located within the College grounds, our HOLMEstore offers professional customer service and expert advice for all your uniform and stationery supplies.


    Staff will guide you through the required uniform items for all seasons and occasions. New and secondhand uniforms, hair accessories and swim attire are available for purchase, as well as an extensive range of Â鶹ÊÓƵCollege merchandise and stationery items.

    Opening Hours (Term Time)

    Monday - Wednesday: 12.30pm - 4pm

    Thursday - Friday : 7.30am - 12.30pm


    The HOLMEstore is situated beneath the Gym on the Bridge Street side of the College, with parking entry via Â鶹ÊÓƵStreet.


    Please feel free to visit us when it best suits you within our opening hours. Fitting appointments for new students can be made by contacting the HOLMEstore directly.

  • How do I order books and stationery?

    BACK-TO-SCHOOL STATIONERY


    Back-to-school stationery can be purchased from Browns Office Choice and parents (both new and existing) will be notified when booklists are online and ready for ordering. All back to school stationery orders are collected from the HOLMEstore, Browns Office Choice, or delivered to home. 


    Families may also choose to shop at another location using the list as their guide.


    For students commencing during the school year, you will receive an email from our HOLMEstore enclosing your daughter’s booklist prior to commencement.

  • Does my daughter need a laptop?

    From 2024, the Junior School iPad program will be replaced by usage of laptops for all students in Years 4 to 6. 


    These will be issued by the College and a general purpose levy will be charged to your account. This brings the Junior School in line with Middle and Senior School laptop usage.


    Laptops will be supplied by the College, have Microsoft Office suite products installed, with IT support by our College IT staff. Laptops will remain at school, in the classroom.


  • How does Â鶹ÊÓƵcommunicate with its families?

    My Fairholme

    The myÂ鶹ÊÓƵ(Parent Portal) is where you will receive Happenings@Holme messages and important documents about school activities, access your child’s reports, book parent teacher interviews, access academic reports, view the parent handbook, and more.


    myÂ鶹ÊÓƵcan be accessed online or via the mobile app. Upon enrolment, you will receive an email with your family’s personalised myÂ鶹ÊÓƵlogin information.

    Social Media

    Regular updates are shared on the College’s social media channels.


    Â鶹ÊÓƵJunior operates year level Facebook pages for parents. These groups can be helpful with reminders and sharing of information, locating of lost property, etc. Membership of these pages is optional and this is not a formal method of communication. Links to access Facebook pages are shared at the beginning of each year.


    ‘At Holme’

  • How do I contact my daughter's teacher?

    Due to their teaching commitments during the day, teachers prefer initial contact from parents via email.

    Please be aware that we do not expect our teachers to respond to emails out of hours.


    You are welcome to email your daughter's teachers to arrange a face-to-face meeting or phone call if necessary.


    Parent/Student/Teacher interviews for Prep to Year 6 students are conducted at the end of Terms 1 and 3. Bookings are made by accessing

  • Who do I contact if my daughter is upset about something?

    We encourage parents to contact their daughter’s class teacher in the first instance. Email is the best method of contact initially and a face-to-face meeting or phone call can be arranged if required.


    If the concern is of a more serious nature, please be in contact with the Deputy Head of Junior School. 

  • What do I do if my daughter is absent from school?

    Absence due to illness


    We encourage Day student parents to use the Absentee button on the MyÂ鶹ÊÓƵApp. 


    This can be used if your daughter is unwell for a day or two due to illness, or if she needs to arrive late or be collected during the day for a medical appointment.


    Absentees can also be emailed to absent-today@fairholme.qld.edu.au, or phone the Junior School Office on 4688 4647 before 9am. 


    Junior School Office staff will phone parents to check on the whereabouts of a student if contact has not been made by the parent. 


    Extended absences


    If your daughter is expected to have an extended absence for family reasons, leave needs to be requested from the Head of Junior. Please email juniorinfo@fairholme.qld.edu.au


  • What Co-Curricular opportunities are available in the Junior School?

    Â鶹ÊÓƵJunior offers a wide variety of cultural, sporting and academic Co-Curricular activities throughout the year. 


    Prior to the start of each term, a Co-Curricular Calendar is published on the Junior School Parent Info page of myFairholme, and as a news item. 


    The calendar will outline the activity, day, date, teacher in charge, and which year level the activity is for. 


    For specialist Arts tuition in instrumental music, piano, singing and Speech and Drama lessons, please complete the . Parents are invoiced directly for these activities.

  • Is there a tuckshop?

    Â鶹ÊÓƵCollege does not have a tuckshop, however we do offer a dining room lunch (the same as provided to our boarding students) Monday to Friday, at a cost of $5 per day. This includes morning tea and lunch. 


    While special dietary requirements can be catered for, e.g. gluten free, individual preferences are not.


    Junior School students can order Â鶹ÊÓƵFare (boarder lunches) a week in advance, for the whole week or any particular days. 


    A copy of the menu for the following week is provided to parents and ordering is via the Events page in myFairholme. Orders close at 9am on a Friday. 

  • When are school camps held?

    Year 3 Sleepover in Greta Junior Library  – 17 November


    Year 4 and 5 Camp at Alexandra Headland - 4 September to 6 September


    Year 6 Canberra Tour - 26 August to 30 August
